Assessment and Mapping of Agricultural Soils in Nova Scotia. Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture

The project involves a collaboration with NSDA Soil Testing Lab on the creation of improved digital soil maps, including maps of soil texture classes, depth to restrictive layer, and integration of legacy data sets into new mapping management tools. This will include the development of a quantification tool for soil composition using spectral methods. The project also will develop of extension information and testing support for soil health that can be offered and promoted to Nova Scotia growers. Appropriate soil health evaluation, including a practical biological nitrogen availability (BNA) will provide estimates of growing season soil nitrogen mineralization which can be used to inform decisions on fertilizer use.
